Horst Berlow

Horst was born in Frankfurt, Germany and received his Journeyman papers in Photo Engraving after extensive training in the Graphic Arts.

He immigrated to Canada in 1961 and settled in Montreal, Quebec where he worked as a Colour Proofer.

Wanting to be closer to nature and the wilderness, Horst moved to Whitehorse, Yukon in 1969 and did the commercial colour printing for the Whitehorse Star and the Yukon News (local newspapers).

In 1973 he moved to Tagish Lake with his wife Inge. They built their log home, in the wilderness, some 100 miles south of Whitehorse.  Surrounded by beautiful scenery Horst began painting watercolours.

After having lived in the wilderness for 33 years he became a resident of Faro, Y.T. in 2006 confident that his paintings would be inspired by the beautiful mountains and valleys surrounding this town.

Apart from his background in the Graphic Arts Horst is self-taught but attends art workshops, in Canada and the United States.  His understanding of colour, his love and appreciation of nature are reflected in his watercolour paintings.
