Gabriele Watts

Gabriele Watts was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada at the age of 10. After completing high school she returned to Germany to work and travel for the next three years. During this period of travel the artwork in the museums of Europe left a lasting impression on Gabriele that would emerge later in life and influence her to begin painting.

Upon returning to Calgary she began a lengthy career and raised a family. Gabriele and her family moved to Whitehorse twenty years ago and here she found the old masters of Europe once again calling through the landscape of the north.
Gabriele is a self taught artist, who has taken numerous workshops and worked with other artists to gain the experience needed to paint the landscapes that she sees while hiking the trails of the Yukon. It is its diversity and ever changing seasons that have inspired Gabriele to paint the Yukon’s landscapes, and share with others the beauty that deeply touches her soul.
