Blair Thorson

Blair Thorson has lived throughout Western Canada and worked as a field surveyor in the North for the past 30 plus years, finally settling in Whitehorse, Yukon in 1997.  Blair has always been interested in art; his only formal art education being in grade school.  He is self directed and is constantly learning more about his passion, through experimentation and perseverance. 

Blair’s first exhibits were group shows in North Eastern B.C. during the mid 1990’s.  After moving to the Yukon, he took part in, The Idea of North, Yukon Portraits and the Yukon Art Society’s Member’s Exhibition group shows. 

Blair’s first solo shows in December 2008 and September 2009 introduced “All Over the Map”, an exhibition of northern images rendered in watercolour on topographic maps.  His next solo exhibitions were at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery in Dawson Creek, B.C. in March, the Yukon Art Society Gallery, Arts Underground, Whitehorse, Yukon in April, Johnson’s Crossing in August, the Baked Café in September of 2010, Truffles Café in Gibson’s Landing, B.C. in February, 2011.  He was in a group showing at Gallery 22 in August and participated in the Adaka Cultural Festival in July 2011.  Selected pieces of artwork are also on display at the Yukon Gallery in Whitehorse and the Coppermoon Gallery.
